Welcome to the Higher Certificate in Entrepreneurship programme. As part of your studies, you are required to study and successfully complete a course on Accounting for Non-Accountants.
2. Module Overview
This course is designed to enable you to understand the basic concepts of accounting commencing with the history and background of accounting as well as the basis for all accounting transactions which is the accounting equation. On the completion of this module a learner should be able to record accounting transactions in the correct books of first entry as well as the subsequent general ledger accounts and resulting trial balance.
3. Aim of the Module
The aim of this course is to provide the learner with knowledge and skills in achieving the fundamental knowledge and skill in the recording of business transactions and thereby accounting for them in the correct and logical manner. The outcomes of the course are as follows:
Understand the background to accounting
Understand how the accounting equation works
Apply the accounting equation to various business transactions
Understand the rationale as well as the application of Value-Added-Tax
Apply the basic procedures to recording transactions on a daily basis
Be able to draw up the general ledger accounts as well as trial balance
